Kashrus Alerts
- Krispy Kreme, Owings Mills Is now under the certification of the KOA and is currently being visited by Star-K mashgichim and is approved. The products are dairy, non-cholov Yisroel.
- Please be advised that OK Labs does not certify Trader Joe's "Challah" Braided Egg Bread. This product is labeled with an unauthorized OK symbol. The mislabeled products were in the West Coast Trader Joes. They are certified as kosher by Rabbi Josef Germaine, Congregation Beth Jacob (Conservative). Challahs sold by Trader Joe’s on the East Coast are certified by the Vaad Hair of Montreal and have the Vaad's symbol on the label.
- Breyer's Yogurt is being reformulated as non-kosher. For a period of time, both versions will be available simultaneously. The reformulated product does not bear the OU symbol, contains gelatin, and bears different graphics stating “Better Tasting, Smoother, and Creamier.” The older version, bearing the OU symbol, will still be available and is in fact certified when bearing the OU symbol. Consumers should always check products at the time of purchase to verify the presence of a kosher symbol.
- Acme Smoked Fish Corporation, Brooklyn, NY, is recalling 17 cases of Sliced Smoked Nova Salmon packed in 8 oz. plastic cup/container coded with a sell-by-date of 12/24/04 - due to Listeria monocytogenes contamination. These were distributed to Stop & Shop Supermarket located at 385 RT 25A & Miller PI. Rd. - Miller Place, NY. Consumers who have purchased this product from that Stop & Shop Supermarket should not eat it, but should return it to the place of purchase or discard it. - Kemps Strawberry Low Fat Milk mistakenly bears an unauthorized OU symbol and is not certified as kosher by the Orthodox Union. Future packaging will be revised.
- There is a new fruit on the market called a “Grapple.” The Grapple is a Washington State Fuji apple soaked in flavors and fatty acids and should only be used with a reliable kosher certification.
