Aga Ovens Sabbath/Holiday Compliance

The following AGA RANGES may be used on the Jewish Sabbath or the Jewish Holidays (Yom Tov) in accordance with the instructions below:

Two Oven
Four Oven

Please be aware that there are restrictions in the use of ovens and stoves on the Sabbath and Holidays. If you are unfamiliar with the laws of keeping food warm on the Sabbath or cooking on the Holidays, please call your Rabbi. Please note that when the Holiday and Sabbath coincide, the Sabbath laws prevail. Before first use of a new oven be sure to wash the racks and interior of the oven thoroughly with warm water and soap to remove any coating oil.

These ranges may be of benefit to those who have domestic help with baking or cooking throughout the week, provided that the range was originally lit by a Shomer Shabbos. For further discussion, see "Food Fit for a King: Reviewing the Laws of Bishul Akum and Bishul Yisroel."

COOKTOPS:

  1. Food must be placed on the cooking plates before the Sabbath. Food may be placed directly on the cooking plates.

  2. On the Sabbath, food may not be returned to the cooking plates unless a "blech" is used to cover the plates.

  3. On the Holidays, the cooking plates may be used in their normal cooking fashion.

  4. During a power failure, the cooking plates will remain on.

OVENS:

  1. All food should be placed in the ovens before the Sabbath begins, since none may be placed in the ovens during the Sabbath.

  2. On the Sabbath, the upper right oven door may only be opened once, all the food removed, and then closed.

  3. On the Sabbath, the other oven doors (lower and left) may be opened/closed and food may be removed (but not returned) as often as desired.

  4. On the Holidays, all oven doors may be opened/closed at any time as often as desired, and the ovens may be used in their normal cooking fashion.

  5. During a power failure, all ovens will remain on.
